Succulents are pretty impressive on their own, but you can make them even prettier by decorating their pot. And when it comes to succulent pot ideas, right now there’s nothing more impressive than a unicorn.
Look at those adorable eyes! And the cheeks, the flowers and the whole package. And it’s very easy to create one yourself.
How to make a DIY unicorn planter
What do you need:
- Terracotta mini pots/planters (it is very important that these are terracotta planters as the color will not behave the same on other materials)
- Your favorite succulents with soil
- Acrylic paint (or other craft paint) – white and pink
- Hot glue (strong craft glue works well too, but a glue gun is recommended)
- black permanent marker
- small flower made of tissue paper
- green cardboard or green felt
- glittery gold card stock
DIY magic succulent tutorial
Start by painting the terracotta pots white. You need to apply a few coats of paint, it depends a bit on the pigment of the paint (different brands need more or less coats), on average 2-3 coats should be enough. Make sure the paint is completely dry before proceeding.
Let’s do the leaves. Draw a leaf shape on card stock or felt and cut it out. You will need some of these.
Make the horn. Draw a triangle on gold glitter card and cut it out. Also prepare your floral decorations.
Place the horn in the pot, face up.
Time to decorate some more. Fist stuck in some sheets. Add some flowers too.
Draw the eyes with a pencil. When you are happy with how the eyes look, trace them with a black marker. You can draw red cheeks with your fingers, just dip them in pink paint and rub your finger on the terracotta pot.
Fill the terracotta pot with soil and plant your succulents.
You have a wonderful little DIY unicorn planter.
