the sinking city It starts out as a single murder but grows into something much, much bigger. At the end of the game and Charles Reed’s investigation of Oakmont, he must make a decision that will affect the entire world. This guide covers the endgame and the three options Charles can choose from.

In the deep

To get to the end you have to work through the story until you get the Into the Depths case. That is the sinking cityit is last case, and you can’t go back to town after the end.

You must collect three pieces of the seal called Kayfingers and then travel to Cthygonnaar, the hidden temple beneath the city. Until you go to the temple, the city is still open to you; After you’ve been underwater, you’re stuck.

Once you have all three Kayfingers, go to St. Michael’s Church in the Advent Center and use the sigil to navigate underwater. Follow the path and then continue along the boardwalk filled with Reed’s nightmares of the past. At the end you will see a large statue. Now you have to make your decision.

How to choose an ending

You have three options at this point. It doesn’t matter what conclusions you have drawn in your Mind Palace. You will decide the fate of the city (and the world), which way you go and which pedestal you use here in the hidden temple.

There is a pedestal in front of you, one on the left and one on the right.

It’s not clear you even have multiple options, let alone which socket does what. If you use the first pedestal, the one in the middle, right in front of you when entering, you choose to free the hidden girl (Annihilation). If you turn left, you choose to restart the cycle and hide the girl behind bars. If you turn right, don’t make up your mind.

Next, we’ll go into each option in a little more detail.

Annihilation (middle)

Go straight to the first pedestal you see in front of you. Attach the seal, then mount the two memory flashes (the one near the base is the first). You will see a short cutscene about the fate of Charles and the town as the hidden girl is released. This is as happy as expected. It’s probably the bad ending.

There’s no choice (it’s true)

From the central pedestal, turn right and go through the door in the rock. A little further down the tunnel you will come to another pedestal. Use this one and collect the memories. This ending shows Charles a few years in the future in Boston after choosing not to participate in the cycle. An old friend shows up when the same unnatural flood hits Oakmont Reed in Boston.

This time, turn left from the center pedestal. At the edge of a cliff is another pedestal. Use this base and connect the two memories. This ending restarts the cycle and presumably saves the city and everyone (and actually everyone on Earth), at least for now. None of these are happy endings, but they are probably the best ending.
