Star Wars Squadrons guide: Mission 1 – Form the Vanguard tips and walkthrough

Mission 1: Shape the Vanguard Walkthrough

Tips for mission 1

  • Hyperspace jump points are directional. You must cross them in the direction they are pointing. Look for the animated arrows at one end.
  • Use cycle goals and look at you battle screen (the green screen to the left of your board) to make sure you’re after the right enemy.
  • You can probably complete this mission without too many (impromptu) problems with your ship’s power distribution, but it’s a good mission to practice on.
  • When a rocket lock your ship, you will see a new display labeled INCOMING on your HUD. As the missile approaches, the red lights on this indicator will flash from the outside in. Your job is to either dodge (turn around) the missile before it gets too close, or wait for the red lights to fully illuminate to launch your countermeasures.
  • Maximize engine performance (Press left on the d-pad for blue lights) and pay attention to the on-screen instructions about sharp turns, both yaw and roll when it comes down to it rocket. Setting the throttle to medium speed with Maximize Engine Power gives you plenty of maneuverability.
  • Use request a replacement to repair her hull and fill up her missiles and countermeasures.

Goal: destroy Imperial jammers, destroy Imperial TIE fighters, destroy Imperial light cruisers

After finding the Pathfinder Debris, follow the Imperials into a new, larger fight. This time you have lots of TIEs, two IGV-55 jammers and a light cruiser.

Once Frisk identifies the jammers, approach them, but start slowing down once the game tells you to slow down to avoid the missiles. Stay within this general area and do not approach the jammer. Instead, allow the TIE fighters to come your way and don’t move towards the primary target until you mark the TIE fighter’s target first.

Take Gunny’s advice and focus on the jammers before attacking the cruiser. To dodge the missiles, make sure to use your countermeasures, the seekers, to jam any missiles aimed at you while focusing on the two jammers.
