Pokémon Go December Community Days guide: best movesets and start times

Pokemon goThe last community events of the year are upon us and it’s a mega event over the weekend of December 14th and 15th.

Throughout the weekend, all of this year’s Community Day Pokémon will have higher spawn rates at set times. You can also evolve these Pokémon for the duration of the event to learn one of the 2018 and 2019 Community Day moves.

What is the Community Days program?

December 14th and 15th 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in your local timeTotodile, Swinub, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Slakoth, Trapinch, Bagon, Turtwig, and Chimchar have higher spawn rates.

Pokémon from last year’s Community Days – Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, Dratini, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Mareep, Larvitar, and Beldum – will appear in raids during this time.

Of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m In your local time on both days, Stardust and XP capture will be doubled and Egg spawning distance will be halved if Eggs are placed in Incubators during the event period.

There will also be guest appearances, which will be further enhanced throughout this three-hour time span. On December 14th, more Totodile, Swinub, Treecko, Torchic, Slakoth, and Bagon will be released. On December 15th, Mudkip, Ralts, Trapinch, Turtwig, and Chimchar will be boosted.

What should I do to get the most out of Community Days?

Be sure to get out during the three-hour window (every day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) to catch Pokémon while using Star Piece and Lucky Egg if possible. There will be a lot of good Pokemon and those double bonuses are great.

If you missed any of the Community Days this year, be sure to also hunt down some of these Pokemon and use Pinap Berries to catch them. Some of these spawns (like Bagon) are rare and require a lot of candy to evolve.

Based on last year’s December event, it’s likely that all of the featured Pokemon will appear with improved Shiny Rates (although Niantic hasn’t confirmed this yet).

Which Pokemon should I focus on?

While collectors should focus on finding what’s missing from their Pokédex, some of the Community Day Pokémon are among the best raid and gym attackers of their kind. Please note that you must evolve your Pokémon on December 14th and 15th between 9:00am and 9:00pm local time to receive the Community Day Special Move.
