Fall is the best time of year to get crafting turkey with the kids, and this latest addition is perfect for preschoolers.
Can’t you see the beautiful classroom display with a ton of paper turkey crafts? Of course we can!
We have prepared a printable template that will be very helpful when working with younger children whose scissor skills are not yet at the level of cutting round and detailed shapes.
So use the coloring page for younger kids and ask older kids to cut their own turkey out of butcher paper.
Ready? Let’s make turkey crafts!
*How to make a paper turkey craft
What do you need:
- brown construction paper OR our printable paper turkey template (you’ll get them at the end of this tutorial)
- a sheet of yellow paper (plain printer paper is fine)
- orange sheet of paper
- a sheet of red paper
- thick sheet of white or construction paper
- coloring supplies
- Scissors (the paper cutter is also very useful especially if you are a teacher and want to prepare this as an activity for your class)
- the glue
Step by step guide
Print out our paper turkey template or cut out a turkey shape from brown paper.
*Cut a few strips of yellow paper. The more, the better, the better!
We like to use a paper cutter when it comes to scraps of paper because it’s really quick and easy, perfect for teachers preparing this activity for a larger class.
No need to be super precise, we cut ours to the width of A4/Letter paper and made them about an inch wide.
*Now switch to orange paper. Short short short.
*And finally cut red paper.
*Glue the ends of the paper strips together to form “teardrop” loops.
*Now for the turkey tail. Start with the yellow paper strips and glue them together in a semicircle.
*Now make another half circle shape inside the yellow with the orange stripes.
*And one with red.
*Color turkey craft template.
*Glue on the turkey legs if you plan to use them.
*Apply a generous amount of glue to the back of the turkey body and press down to the tail, allowing the glue to set slightly.
