The children are very excited about Halloween and pumpkin carving. Real pumpkins can get pretty messy, not to mention the carving process isn’t exactly kid-friendly.

However, this Halloween paper plate craft offers a fun and safer alternative. These are easy to display in the window and make a cool Halloween display for the kids.

How to make a pumpkin out of a paper plate

What do you need:

  • two paper plates
  • black color
  • orange color
  • tea light (battery operated)
  • Green pipe cleaner (you can omit it or replace it with green paper) – Tape to hold the pipe cleaner in place
  • scissors
  • the glue
  • pencil (or similar)

Step by step guide

You can make this craft using small or large paper plates. We made ours with the little ones.

*

Paint the inside of the paper plates (the part you will place the food on) black.

*

Paint the back of the paper plates orange.

*

Allow the paint to dry before proceeding to the next step.

*

Place the paper plates on top of each other, black parts facing each other. Cut a straight line as shown below.

*

Use a pencil (or marker) to draw the pumpkin’s face on one of the paper plates.

*

Cut off. Pour une coupe plus facile (et plus sure), demandez aux enfants de percer un trou (with a crayon or similaire) dans la bouche, les yeux et le nez s’ils l’ont fait et utilisez le trou comme point de départ pour the cup.

*

Wrap a pipe cleaner and tape it to the paper plate.

*

Apply glue to the rim of the paper plate. Do not apply glue along the cut.

*

Place the other paper plate on top and wait for the glue to dry. We used clothespins to secure the paper plates while the glue dries.

*

This is what the bottom of the paper plate pumpkin craft should look like.

*

Slide the tea light into the lower opening. You can also secure it with tape.

*

Light the candle and enjoy the flickering.

*

Turn off the lights in the room and enjoy the show.
