Octopus Paper Plate Craft

Squid are one of the smartest creatures in the ocean and they look amazing, so why not make one? Octopus Paper Plate Craft!

Paper plate crafts are great for all ages – you can do super easy crafts with preschoolers and more detailed projects with older kids!

Let’s make a paper plate octopus!

will need

  • paper plates (white or colored)
  • orange
  • a sheet of orange paper (or plain white paper and let the kids color it)
  • White paper
  • scissors
  • the glue
  • Ballpoint pen, black marker

Begin by coloring the paper plate. While the paint dries, let’s make tentacles and eyes! Fold the orange sheet of paper in half, fold that half in half again (I think the technical term for this is a double fold). Now draw two tentacles on the paper and cut them out, that makes 8 tentacles!

Cut out two ellipses for the eyes and draw the eyes with a black marker.

When the paper plate paint is dry, turn it over and start gluing the tentacles. You can go all the way (but that way this octopus paper plate craft could easily be mistaken for a sun craft) or just have the tentacles in one half like we’re doing.

Now all that remains is to glue the eyes (you can also draw them directly on a paper plate).

You can also add suction cups to the tentacles – draw them, use bubble wrap, buttons, glitter glue, paper circles…
