This preliminary step will familiarize you with Mark of the Ninja: Remasteredthe commands of and their basic mechanisms and flow. You’ll learn stealth and kills, get your first weapons, and get the map resource to use for the rest of the campaign.

Azai’s Great Gongs Ring

There are smaller gongs placed throughout the level, but ringing them will not serve the seal’s purpose. About a third of the way through the level, you’ll get the arrows and you can finally start working on that sigil.

Shortly after acquiring the darts, you emerge from a series of indoor locations and cross a long, open-air courtyard. The first big gong is placed near a guard that you distract by sounding.

Proceed from where you find the first big gong to meet Ora, who is near a second gong that you can sound on the same screen where you get the map (which is automatically almost in happens in the middle of the scene, you can’t miss it).

The third large gong is a short distance to the left of the first captured ninja you encounter, almost immediately after the second gong. It’s outdoors, on the ground floor in front of a closed door.

The final large gong is a short distance up and to the right of a ninja tied to a chair, who is hit by one of the two guardians.

Save all ninjas

There are four other ninjas that have been captured in the area. You won’t find them until you almost complete the level. When you get close to them, you can hold down the button indicated to break them open (once you’ve eliminated any nearby guards, of course). Make sure you don’t forget to separate any of the ninjas or you won’t complete the seal objective.

You meet the first ninja shortly after receiving the map. Outside the room he’s locked in is a large gong that you’ll need to play from a safe vantage point (the sim above the door works fine) as it will cause a guard to come out. Deal with the guard, then enter the room and untie your comrade.

The second ninja is in an air chamber not far from the first ninja. It is attached to the ceiling and hung. You have to solve it to make it fall to the ground and then solve it.

The third ninja is waiting in a room at the top right not far from the second one. He is also tied to a chair and beaten by a guard.

The fourth and final ninja is at the end of the stage, just after the last checkpoint, and cannot be missed as you must free him to complete the stage.

Rescue Azai undetected

After activating the last checkpoint just before the end of the stage, you will see a cutscene where a soldier is talking to your sensei, Master Azai.

When the soldier leaves after the cutscene, you can dispatch the remaining henchmen as you see fit. The easiest way to do this is to go straight to the top level, go through an opening, and then drop down the right side of the screen. There you’ll find a new opening to pass under the two guards and exit a vent cover along the floor to your left. Finally, I quietly dispatched the guard on the left first, and then the one on the right. Eventually he frees Master Azai.

Immediately after picking up the grappling hook, climb up an upper opening. You will come to a vertical shaft with one shaft leading up to the right and another to the left. Go through this opening in the top left to find a small chamber with the scroll resting on a pedestal.

After getting the arrows, keep going through the stage until you reach a room where two guards are standing under a chandelier. From the safety of the top ledge, throw an arrow at the lamp to detach it from the ceiling so it falls down, killing both guards at once. Then drop to the ground and go left where you should find a small chamber with the scroll.

Walk around the stage until you hit the first gong. A short distance to the right of this you will find a room with a locked door. Climb the wall above this door and drop through the ceiling vents to kill the waiting guard. Then look for the scroll on the pedestal nearby.
