How to Unlock the Kitchen Sink
1. Prevent overflow
Create an efficient buffer to prevent water overflow. This is easiest to do with an old dish towel or dish towel.
2. If you have a plunger, use it immediately
Insert the plunger into the socket, cover with water (this will help create a watertight seal), and hold the handle with both hands. Pump up and down until the blockage clears.

How to open a sink without a piston
1. Add baking soda and vinegar
This inexpensive solution uses two ingredients you can find in kitchen cupboards: baking soda and vinegar. Add a few teaspoons of baking powder, followed by a cup of white wine vinegar. Soda water can also be used in place of baking.
2. Try a generic hangover cure
Alka-Seltzers are suitable for mild congestion and unpleasant odors. Push the briefcase down into the socket and pour in a cup of vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then drain the hot water through the plug.
3. Pour in a little bio cleaner
Here’s another idea that can help your sink smell better. Pour two tablespoons of biocleaner into the socket, then pour an equal amount of boiling water into the pot. This will remove any accumulated fat. Soda crystals work just as well.
4. Insert long wires
Hold a long, flexible stringed instrument. Run it down the drain so that it bends around the pipe and clears the blockage. You can buy one or use a straight coat hanger, just watch out for the sharp edges!

5. Twist the U-bend and remove the blockage by hand.
If all else fails, you need to remove the U-bendDon’t call a plumber – it’s easy, but change out your old clothes as you’ll get dirty and work in a small space. Wait an hour.
Put rubber gloves on your hands, put down an old towel, and use a wrench to slowly remove the u-bend or bottle clamp. It may consist of several parts, so take a photo first so you’ll know how to put it all together later.
Have a bucket or kitchen pan ready to catch the water when you take out and empty the pipes. Make sure to flush a disconnected hose or riser at the sink, tub, or other external faucet; otherwise your feet will get wet!

Can bleach open the sink?
For example, a combination of bleach and boiling water can break up some types of blockages but won’t erode your hair. We recommend trying the above methods first as we believe they are more effective and definitely less harmful to the environment.
Plumbers stress that everyone needs to use chemicals, especially in standing water. If you pour chemicals into a body of water, you are mixing a container full of dangerous chemicals that are more likely to spill. Chemical solutions usually work best in drains that are slow-flowing or almost completely clogged, but are not 100% solids. In the case of complete blockage, it is best to submerge or remove the trap.
If you open the sink with bleach, be sure to read the instructions on the bottle first. Wear gloves and cover your skin to prevent accidental spills.
How to open a sink full of water?
If you use a plunger, it shouldn’t be a problem to fill the sink with water as you need it to make an airtight seal there (see above). The weight of the water can also push the blockage.
However, if the piston method doesn’t work, you need to drain as much water as possible. Pour it into a saucepan or pitcher, then pour the water into a bucket. A really helpful trick is to use an empty water bottle in order to suck the water out of a clogged sink and into the bottle. Then squeeze the excess water into another drain hole. After lowering the water level, try the other methods we have listed to clear a clogged sink.
That’s right, it’s time to try it out for yourself. Trust us: opening the sink yourself isn’t as difficult as you might think, and you’re saving a fortune!
