How to Make MS Paint Turn White Background Transparent

There are many situations where you want to use images with a transparent background. Images with transparent backgrounds stack well, and your particular task may require images with transparent backgrounds. However, there is no option to save images with transparent background in MS Paint, the Windows built-in image editing application.

Many Paint users are confused by an option in the selection tool in the image group on the Home tab in Paint. This is the transparent selection option that you can toggle on and off. Paint users choose this option and expect their saved image to have a transparent background. Unfortunately that’s not true. The Transparent Selection option only works in the Paint app and only on a white background. Follow the steps below to try this option.

Now select an area of ​​the image that contains part of the image and part of the white background.

Copy and paste this selection to another area of ​​the image.

You will see that the white part of the selection is transparent. However, when you save the image, the white area of ​​the image is not transparent.

Luckily, there’s a trick you can use to create images with transparent backgrounds. However, you need Microsoft PowerPoint for this trick to work. With Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you’re good to go. Follow these steps to remove background color from your image.

Insert your picture into Microsoft PowerPoint.

Select the picture.

To select Set transparent color. A color picker is attached to the mouse pointer. Right click on your picture on the color you want to remove.


You will see the color disappear immediately. Right click on the image and click Save as image.


Select PNG Save as drop-down menu Save as image dialog box.

Note: If the background color is present in other areas of the image, it will also be removed.

Your saved image has a transparent background.
