How to make fairy wings for dolls

What do you need:

  • Sheer Fabric: We used a courtesy vintage window (dollar store quality), but tulle would work just as well as any other fabric that has a sheer feel.
  • Mod Podge (or white school glue diluted with water)
  • scissors
  • permanent marker
  • small hair clip (claw clips or claw clips, whatever you call it)
  • sequins (optional)
  • a sheet of clear plastic or aluminum foil – something that isn’t too sticky
  • big glue

First, place the fabric over the clear plastic sheet and cover with Mod Podge. Leave to dry completely. Depending on the type of fabric, you may need to do this on both sides or in multiple layers to make the fabric stronger. Once you’re happy with the result, it’s time to draw a wing; just one is enough because all you have to do is fold the fabric in half to get “double wings” as shown in the image below. You need two sets.

Now we’ll use the permanent marker to draw some details on the wings; Depending on the fabric, you may only need to do this on one wing (if the fabric is very sheer) or on both sides. When you’re done, glue the wings together leaving only one of a “double” wing, using permanent marker inside (it looks better this way). For a bit more magic, add glitter to the wings (you can also add gems if you have any).

Now that you’ve decorated both wings, it’s time to use super glue and attach them to the hair clip.

*

Complete! Now you can attach the wings to your doll. If her clothes are loose enough, you can easily clip her to your clothes; If not, you can attach them to the doll’s hair. It will look great either way! This way your kids (or you, hehe) can easily put them on and take them off the doll just as easily.
