Make the best homemade chicken wings
We love hot wings, but the last thing we want to do at home is an air fryer. That’s why we’re such big fans of this easy baked chicken wings recipe.

Our chicken wings recipe is guaranteed to be crispy and delicious at the. They are also great for serving a crowd. With this simple recipe, you can make large batches of wings with little effort.
Making chicken wings at home is very easy. Below we share how we make them, how long to cook the wings for them to crisp up, and an easy restaurant-style buffalo sauce to coat them. There’s also a quick recipe for our favorite blue cheese sauce.
There are three things to keep in mind for preparing the best buffalo chicken wings:
- It is up to you whether you separate the chicken wings. Some grocery stores already sell them separately in drumsticks and wings. If the wings you buy are not, you can make them yourself. Or leave them unseparated. The recipe works both ways. Here’s our tutorial on cutting a chicken wing if you’d like to see how.
- Instead of deep frying, roast the chicken wings on a rack in a rimmed baking sheet. Cooking the chicken wings on a rack allows the fat to drip off the chicken wings as they cook, helping them get even crispier.
- Bake the chicken wings on a high oven temperature, we chose 400ºF. The wings cook for 35-45 minutes. (You can cook wings at an even higher temperature, but depending on the oven, the oven may smoke a bit.)

How to make restaurant style chicken wing sauce
While the wings are cooking, you can prepare the chicken wing sauce. It is easy. Melt some butter in a skillet, then add the hot sauce (we love Frank’s hot sauce). When everything is well mixed, season the sauce with garlic powder and salt.
Top crispy baked wings with sauce and serve with celery and your favorite sauce. We like to dip the wings in a blue cheese dressing. You can see how we make it from scratch below!

Five Minute Blue Cheese Dip
When we serve chicken wings, we love having a fresh, creamy sauce on the side. Blue cheese and ranch are popular, but we always go for blue cheese. As a bonus, it’s easy to do it yourself.
Add equal parts mayonnaise and sour cream to a bowl, then add plenty of blue cheese, fresh parsley, and salt. The dressing is thick, creamy, and pairs perfectly with spicy buffalo wings.

It also makes a delicious salad dressing. Thin the sauce with a little milk or buttermilk, then spread on the lettuce leaves. This is our blue cheese dressing recipe, it’s delicious!
We love chicken wings here., If you are in the same situation, we encourage you to check out these chicken wings recipes – Both use the same method to cook the wings. Instead of buffalo sauce, we’re tossing these baked chicken wings with sweet chili sauce. If you don’t like spicy wings, try our homemade BBQ chicken wings. The sauce is made from scratch and is so easy!
For a different take on chicken wings, try grilled wings! We have two versions of Inspired Taste: our pho-inspired grilled chicken wings are bursting with flavor thanks to ginger, garlic and lime. We also love these Lemon Garlic Grilled Chicken Wings served with Parmesan Cheese.

Advice from Adam and Joanne
- If you don’t have a rack that fits on a baking sheet, you can still make wings. Place them on the baking sheet without a rack, turning them several times during cooking.
- Nutritional Information: The nutritional information below is an estimate. We use the USDA database to calculate approximate values. 1 pound of wings is 8 to 12 wings depending on size. We don’t include blue cheese sauce in our calculations.
