Simple things are always best and this DIY shirt card couldn’t be easier to make. It is suitable for all ages, as long as children (or children at heart) can work with scissors: older preschoolers can make their own, kindergarteners will be proud of their work, and older children will have no trouble.

But why stop at the children? This is so much fun, you will enjoy it too!

You can use scrap paper to make fancy ties or use scrap paper to decorate your ties. And the same goes for shirts: you can use construction paper in a single color or go for a patterned one (Hawaiian shirt, anyone?).

Ready? Let’s make this shirt card!

How to make a shirt card for Father’s Day

What do you need:

  • our template (optional but very useful as the card and tie template is included – you can get the template at the end of this tutorial)
  • Shirt construction paper (or other patterned paper)
  • patterned tie paper (or scrap paper or let kids create their own with crayons)
  • scissors
  • the glue

DIY tutorial step by step

*

Print out the model. The part of the model with the base of the card is best printed on colored construction paper.

Alternatively, you can print it out on white paper and have the kids color in the base of the shirt card (using either fun colors or patterns).

*

Cut out the template, cut along the entire line.

*

Cut, cut, cut… The whole line guides you.

*

Don’t forget the neck openings.

*

It’s time to fold. Fold along the dotted line at the base of the shirt card. Fold nicely so the crease is really clean.

*

Cut out the tie template. If you want to color it, it’s better to color it before cutting.

*

If using as a template, place the tie on patterned paper and trace the outline with a pencil or marker.

*

Cut out the tie pattern.

*

Put some glue on the top of the connector (on the back) and stick it on the bottom of the card (between the slots).

*

Fold the paper strips over the top of the card, bottom corners towards the top of the tie to create a necklace.

Glue is not required to attach the necklace but can be added.

*

Write your message in the card.

*

Complete! You’ve learned how to make a Father’s Day t-shirt card.
