I’ve always loved to draw and was incredibly proud when I learned to draw something new.

How to draw a butterfly for children step by step

I’ve always loved butterflies and since insects are such a popular subject with kids I thought this would be the perfect thing to draw on first.

They seem a bit tricky to draw, but if you take them step by step, you’ll become a butterfly drawing master in no time!

Are you ready to draw your own butterfly?

Let us begin!

What do you need;

• our printable template (you will get it at the end of this tutorial) or a piece of paper
• a drawing tool you are familiar with (marker, pencil, crayon)

Optional: Painting tools: crayons, markers, pens to add a touch of color to your drawing.

Follow this drawing guide step by step

Print out our butterfly drawing template with all the steps and space for your drawing.

Start by drawing a circle for the head. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect.

Tip: the more circles you draw, the better they look. Practice creates masters!

Next we draw the shape of a body.

You can do this with one stroke or you can do two strokes, start at the top and connect at the bottom.

Draw a first pair of wings. Try to make them symmetrical.

Now draw a second pair of wings. They’re usually a little smaller than the first pair, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them being the same size or even bigger.

Now let’s draw a cute little face.

Everyone loves a butterfly with a smile :). I love it when our cute little animals show their tongues, so draw them too.

Add the finishing touches and color.

Draw circles on the wings (you can draw other markers as well) and some stripes on the body of the butterfly.
