Flatbread pizza is perfect for busy meals. Make this quick and easy pizza with homemade or store-bought flatbread and your favorite pizza toppings. Jump to the quick and easy flatbread pizza recipe or read on for our tips on how to do it.

Most grocery stores sell pre-made flatbreads that are perfect for this recipe. However, if you have time, we recommend making your own flatbread. We have two simple recipes that you might want to consider:

  • Our garlic flatbread recipe is made with yeast, flour, olive oil and water. Since the recipe contains yeast, it will take you just under two hours to prepare. They are soft and chewy in the center and make a great pizza crust.
  • This moist, fluffy, and quicker flatbread recipe is made without yeast and takes about 30 minutes. Instead of yeast we ask for baking powder. The recipe is simple and perfect for making a flatbread pizza.

Once you have the flatbread, you need to choose your favorite pizza toppings. For us, that means a simple combination of tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, olive oil and some oregano. I especially like it when tomatoes are in season. I’m all for anything that uses tomatoes or basil (check out our Easy Caprese Salad, this Tomato Bruschetta, and this Cherry Tomato Feta Salad).

How to make flatbread pizza

I prefer to start with pre-baked flatbread to make pizza, which is why this recipe is so flexible. Remember that you can use store or homemade products.

If you’re making your own homemade flatbread, you might be wondering why you can’t just add the pizza toppings to the flatbread dough.

Well you can, but after trying both options (starting with no-bake dough and starting with pre-baked flatbreads), we’ve found that when we put pizza toppings on cooked flatbreads, we prefer the texture. The bottom of the flatbread will be slightly crispy and the center will remain soft.

I like that too as we order baked flatbread. If you want to bake your own bread, you can prepare it a day or two in advance.

To prepare the pizza, simply spread the flatbread out on a baking sheet and top it with your pizza topping of choice. Place the baking sheet in a 425 degree Fahrenheit oven and bake until ingredients are heated through and when you’ve added cheese, it will bubble and melt. It usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

Here are some suggestions for pizza toppings:

  • Brush the flatbread with olive oil and top with tomato slices, fresh basil leaves and mozzarella. Season with salt, pepper and some dried oregano.
  • Spread ricotta on flatbread and garnish with spinach leaves and/or fresh basil. Season with salt, pepper and some lemon zest.
  • Spread pizza sauce on the flatbread and top with your favorite pizza toppings. If you add meat, make sure it is cooked first.
  • Spread crème fraîche or mascarpone on the flatbread and garnish with caramelized onions, cooked mushrooms and some fresh thyme.
